Cernatesti is a district in the Dolj County, Romania. Located in the south-eastern part of Romania, it takes up the north-western part of Dolj County, bordering with the district of Calafat to the west, Caracal to the north, Filiasi to the east and the Danube to the south. It is named after the commune of Cernatesti. The main towns are Bechet, Babiciu and Cernatesti.
The area of the district is 1,749 km2, being populated by 39,641 inhabitants. It has two major rivers, the Canal and the Ohrincea, and many small ones. The main road through the district is the DN 66 that connects Craiova with Bechet.
The landscape is made up of valleys, hills and mountains, and is characterized by the presence of forests, natural reserves and parks. The Cernatesti Argonauts Natural Park and the Bechet Natural Park are some of the natural attractions in the district. Agriculture is the main economic activity in the district and it is famous for its production of potatoes and vegetables.
