It is bordered by the counties of Teleorman to the west, Dâmbovița to the south and east, Giurgiu to the south, and Olt to the north. It has an area of 1,945 km² and a population of 146,220 people, making it the 11th least populated county of Romania. It is the 18th least densely populated county in the country, with a population density of 75.3 inhabitants/km². The district capital is the town of Corbii Mari. Other major towns include Drăgănești-Olt, Ștefan cel Mare and Cuca.
